FOR RESEARCHERS

 

UKCNRC is dedicated to promoting and supporting collaborative research into rare childhood neurological diseases. Our Research Support Panel (see ABOUT US) provides a wide range of experience that researchers can draw upon in formulating, planning and executing their research.

 

How can UKCNRC help researchers?

 

• For an idea at an early stage: informed discussion of the concept, methodology and statistics.
• For a more developed proposal: drafting funding applications, ethics applications, R&D applications, applications to the MCRN if appropriate, European legislation.
• We can engage our network of paediatric neurology centres across the UK for collaborative studies.
• Advice and support in data flow/data management (paper and electronic).
• For the future we anticipate a team skilled in standardised neurological outcome assessment which can be allocated to UKCNRC projects as needed.
• Practical support in taking research questions forward based on the conclusions of an initial study.
• We have close links to the Medicines for Children Research Network (MCRN) and British Paediatric Neurological Surveillance Unit (BPNSU) and can advise on the most appropriate routes for study support.
• Limited funds are available for small scale pilot studies.

 

Researchers with research plans at any stage from early concept through to funded studies are asked to complete our Research Proposal form. Each study has to be adopted by the UKCNRC before support can be guaranteed. Thus proposals are put to the Research Support Panel and will usually be peer reviewed prior to adoption.

 

Dr John Coleman, UKCNRC Research Coordinator, is keen to hear from UK-based researchers planning studies of rare childhood neurological disorders. We are particularly keen to support research from early concept onward.
